WOMEN SAFETY IN INDIA

The safety of women is a big concern in India. As India is a famous country all over the world for its culture and tradition where a woman is having the respected place in the society.

Women are given the place of goddess Lakshmi in the Indian culture. But there is a negative aspect of women position and safety. The women play’s several roles in a whole life. She is a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, a young girl, a small girl, are getting harassed, molested, assaulted, and violated at various places all over the country. The men are like hunters for molesting the women at various places like streets, public spaces, public transport, etc.

CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN

Girl students going to school or colleges they have to cover them by books or bags or they have to wear clothes which can cover them completely. The girls are not safe with their parents also because some parent sale their girl child just to earn some money. If the girl ignores to go with any person or stops him to do the wrong things with her, they throw acid on their faces which spoils the girl’s face and her whole life. Women of India is having the equal rights as men in the society as the women occupy the half population of the country.

It is true that women in modern India are joining the high post like (president, speaker of the lok sabha, Union Ministers, Leader of Opposition, Chief Minister, Governor, etc.) and on the back of curtain, they are being molested too. In Indian Constitution, the women have equal rights of dignity, equality, and freedom from gender discrimination. Women are continuously facing the various problems like sexual harassment, violent victimization through rape, acid attack, dowry deaths, forced prostitution, and much more.

According to the statistics of National Crime Records Bureau, highest rate of crime against women was recorded in the Chennai in 2000 (around 4,037 incidences). Chennai is the capital of southern state of Tamil Nadu however has been marked as city with high rate of crimes against women. However, it was seen some decrease in the crime rate against women in the subsequent years (around 838 by 2013). It has been recorded as the largest fall in the crime rate than other cities in India. It was just opposite in the capital of India, Delhi. Crime rate against women in Delhi was 17.6/100,000 females in 2000 (2,122 incidents) and 151.13/100,000 females in 2013 (11,449 incidents). Some of the most common crimes against women are rape, dowry deaths, sexual harassment at home or work place, kidnapping and abduction, cruelty by husband, relatives, assault on a woman, and sex trafficking.

EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The women in India is heading their households and they also get educated. But the female literacy rate is still less than the men literacy rate. However, In the cities, women are more or equally educated than the men. They are having more workload than men, the women have to always do all the household chores and if she wants to go out for study or work in the office they have to manage both things simultaneously. And women do it successfully so they are more strong than the men.

They contribute to education and economic development equally as men do.

So the women safety is most important for the development of the country.

SOME SAFETY TIPS:

•Carry a pepper spray with you, always and keep it handy. Don’t tuck it too low in your bag.

•When you are walking on a road, keep your mobile phone handy but avoid using it. Being on the phone makes you less alert.

• When you are travelling in an auto alone, make sure you share the auto number with someone in your family even if it’s during the day.

•Similarly, if you have booked a cab, always share your coordinates with someone.

• When in office, avoid going to isolated areas with no CCTV cameras.

•If you have parked your car, always look underneath, especially at night or at a less-crowded area.

• Whenever you are posting anything on social media, make sure you don’t do it in real-time. Because if you do, you’re telling people on your social media about your whereabouts. Delay those posts by say, 20-30 minutes.

•Always ensure you aren’t posting anything on your social media with your address or phone number on it.

•Whenever you are getting your phone recharged, if it’s at a store, don’t loudly speak up your phone number.

• If you feel someone is stalking you, try to find a crowded place and call someone for help.

The self-defence techniques are very important for women they must take the training of self-defence techniques.

The women have the inbuilt sixth-sense which they must use when they are in danger and avoid the situation which they feel bad for them.

•DEFINE THE SITUATION OF CRIME AGAINST WOMEN

The situation is pretty bad, sadly most crimes against women are not even recognised as a crime even by the victim. I think we need to start raising our children with more awareness.

•WHY IS WOMEN SAFETY NEEDED

You open the newspaper and read the top 10 news, I bet atleast 50% on an average day would answer that question for us.

Women are continuously facing the various problems like sexual harassment, violent victimization through rape, acid attack, dowry deaths, forced prostitution, and much more.

HOW CAN WE CHANGE MENTALLY OF SOCIETY TOWARDS A WOMAN

Of course we can, we the people are society, least we can do is start with us

And To tell them what is the power of a woman

WHAT INITIATIVES SHOULD BE TAKEN FOR WOMEN FREEDOM

Freedom ?? I think if we need to start an initiative to Free 50% of our population we are doomed forever. We should work on equality and removing this gender gap. Rest would sort itself.

•WE GOT INDEPENDENCE IN 1947 , DO GIRLS ARE REALLY INDEPENDENT

Girls , are independent provided we educate them and the real training needs to be given to boys preferable from a very young age on how to respect women. If you’ll make the males in the family always feel superior, no change will happen.
So Give equal treatment to both

The Day she will walk alone will be the Real Independence Day

HOW CAN A GIRL MAKE HERSELF STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT

There is no fight, we are equals with different roles to fill in society, there’s no fight between genders.
Only some people don’t know how to treat and respect a Woman

Men should Respect a woman

Girls have to become Strong Mentally and Physically to Make Herself Safe

•WHAT SHOULD BE THE PUNISHMENT FOR THE CRIMINALS

We should discuss about positive reinforcements first.

WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY TO GIRLS

Be who ever you want to be, do what you wanted to do always, you’re more than just someone who should get married and settle down. Educate yourself, earn money learn to support yourself and your family.

Be Safe Be Strong

#RespectGirls

#EducationforGirls
